DuringJune 26th-29th, the4thRegional Steering Committee (RSC) meeting of the Medium Term Cooperation Program Phase 2 (MTCP2) was held in Beijing. Mo Dan,thevice president ofAgricultural Management Institute(AMI), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs,Li Xiaosha,thedirector of General Station of Administration on Rural Cooperative Economy, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered speeches.
Mo Dan points out thatAMIasaNIA of the program, carried out a great deal of fruitful work in past 9 years. Through training, publicity, consultation and guidance, it supportedmassivefarmers’ cooperativesin capability building and market exploring. According to the statistics, more than 10 NPC &CPPCC delegates and labor models have engaged into the training classesconductby AMI, and more than 1000 cooperatives have been rated as national demonstration cooperatives.
Li Xiaosha said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to agriculture, rural areas and farmers. Up to now, there are2.07million farmers' cooperatives in Chinawith48.2% of the total farmersjoined in.Farmers' cooperative has become an important new agricultural management body and the backbone of modern agricultural construction. It has been playingimportant role in promoting moderate scale management of agriculture, rural revitalization, economic link between small farmers and modern agriculture, and the increase of farmers' income and prosperity.
The meeting wasjointlyhosted by the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development, Department of Rural Economic System and Management, General Station of Administration on Rural Cooperative Economy, Agricultural Management Institute,and Rural Cooperative Economy Management Association of China. Delegates of International Fund for Agricultural Development of the medium term cooperation program, the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development, La Via Campesina and NIA countriesofChina, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Tonga, and other 14 delegates of the farmers’ organizations participated in the meeting. Representatives of Beijing North Garden Vegetable Production and Marketing Cooperative Federation and Beijing Rong Tao Pea Production and Marketing Farmers’ Cooperative attended the meeting.
Delegates from all NIA countries summarized the Medium Term Cooperation Program Phase 2 (MTCP2), stated the progress of the budget implementation, discussed the overall framework of APFP, and reach a framework consensus.
