The International High-level Consultative Expert Workshop (HLCEW) on Sustainable Development of Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries under the framework of the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Program was held during June 1-5, 2015 in Wuxi of Jiangsu Province of China.

The Workshop was hosted by China and UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO),and was organized by the Center of International Cooperation Service (CICOS) of MOA and the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS-FFRC). The Workshop is a substantive move to implement the agreement on aquaculture and inland fisheries cooperation between China and FAO. It is believed that the Workshop will provide a good basis for further cooperation in this regard under the framework of China-FAO SSC Program. The Workshop focused on the theme of the "status quo, demands, challenges and opportunities of fishing and aquaculture in support of food security and rural development". Participating experts shared expertise and experience of different countries and brought up with specific suggestions on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture cooperation under the framework of SSC Program.

The Workshop pointed out that for a long time, CAFS and FAO has conducted successful cooperation. In 2014, FFRC-CAFS acquired the recognition of FAO Reference Center of Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries Research and Training, establishing a higher level platform for international communication and SSC Program. CAFS, as the national team of China’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, is willing to conduct cooperation with other countries and share experience and achievements under the framework of the FAO-China SSC Program, and make contributions to the cause of poverty alleviation and hunger reduction.
