Vice Premier Wang Yang, accompanied by AgricultureMinister Han Changfu, attended the celebration events of China Pavilion Day and visited the exhibition of Chinese agricultural heritages at the Milan Expo2015 on June 8, 2015.

　　Asa major event of the China Pavilion Day, the show of Chinese agriculturalheritages presented the folk music "Grand Song" of the Dong ethnicgroup of Guizhou Province,the fish-shaped lantern dance telling the rice-fish culture of Zhejiang Province,and a documentary film to brief the Globally Important Agricultural HeritageSystems (GIAHS) in China. Besides, there was also an ancient ballad ofthe Hani People well-known for their rice terrace system in Yunnan Province.All these performances reflected the glory and charm of China's farming civilization with ahistory over 5000 years.

　　Themed on “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, the Milan Expo 2015 highlights agriculture and food safety and explores new approaches to sufficient, quality and healthy food in a sustainable way while maintaining harmony between human beings and the nature. Following a theme of “Land of Hope, Food of Life”, the China Pavilion illustrates the unity of the nature and human,a concept integrating sustainable development and traditional farming civilization.

　　The theme of the Expo is highly coincident with the concept of GIAHS initiated by FAO in 2002. GIAHS aims to promote dynamic conservation and adaptive management of agricultural heritages and associated biodiversity, beautiful landscapes, traditional knowledge and culture, as well as to ensure global food security, sustainable agricultural development and farmer’s income growth.

　　As of May 2015, FAO has identified 32 GIAHS sites in 14 countries. China is one of the important participating countries of GIAHS initiative. Since 2005, with vigorous promotion of MOA, 11 outstanding Chinese traditional agricultural heritage systems have been recognized as GIAHS sites, including Qingtian Rice-Fish Culture System in Zhejiang, Congjiang Rice-Fish-Duck System in Guizhou, and so on. MOA has started the identification and conservation of Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (NIAHS),which have generated favorable social, ecological and economic benefits in China. FAO also reiterated its appreciation for the leading role of China in agricultural heritage conservation.

　　The GIAHS show on China Pavilion Day was organized by the Center of International Cooperation Service, MOA, with great support of the Agricultural Commission of Guizhou Province, the People’s Government of Congjiang County, the People’s Government of Qingtian County, and the General Chamber of Commerce of Overseas Chinese in Venice, Italy.
